Minnesota Women's Political Caucus to Launch Diversity Outreach Program
The Minnesota Women's Political Caucus (MWPC) is pleased to announce its Diversity Outreach Program funded by grants from the Bremer Foundation and the Women's Foundation of Minnesota. The project will focus on educating, engaging and empowering women in underrepresented populations with an emphasis on the four primary racial/ethnic communities: African-American, Hmong, Latina, and Native American.
According to study conducted by the Women's Foundation of Minnesota on the status of women of color in Minnesota, no woman of color has ever served in Minnesota's congressional delegation, statewide elected office, and only two have served in the legislature. MWPC has recognized the seriousness of the demographics concerning the political activity of women of color in Minnesota and developed the program to determine how organizations such as MWPC can become relevant to women of color. Objectives of the program are: 1) to increase the voice of women of color and representation in the political process within Minnesota; 2) develop and expand partnerships with existing leaders and organizations from the racial/ethnic communities; and 3) through the partnerships, identify the primary issues and concerns of women in each of the four key communities.
Currently MWPC is forming a committee composed of leaders from the key racial/ethnic communities to carryout the initiatives of the program. For more information on the Diversity Outreach Program Committee or the Minnesota Women's Political Caucus call (651) 228-0995 or visit www.mnwpc.org.
